The 27-year-old rapper was arrested right before his scheduled appearance at the BET hip-hop awards, for which he was up for multiple award nominations and was scheduled to perform. The rapper, who is a convicted felon with previous drug and firearm charges, provided one of his bodyguards with $12,000 to buy guns. The bodyguard gave over three machine guns and two silencers to the rapper, according to the article. CNN also reports that TI had been arrested on "felony drug charges" in 1998, in addition to his previous gun charges, the reason he paid his bodyguard to buy the guns for him. David Nahmias, U.S. attorney for the northern Georgia district, commented, "The last place machine guns should be is in the hands of a convicted felon, who cannot legally possess any kind of firearm. This convicted felon allegedly was trying to add several machine guns to an already large and entirely illegal arsenal of guns."
