12/23/2007 in Satirists John Stewart and Stephen Colbert are going back on the air! Susie Kopecky Young news fans may sigh in relief. Comedy Central's hit shows "The Daily Show with John Stewart" and "The Colbert Report" will be back in production on January 7th, according to FOX News. Colbert and Stewart are beloved by many for their satirical skewering of the news. The hosts have expressed their intention to return to the small-screen, with or without their writers. Since the Writers Guild of America-led strikes a little less than two months ago, many shows have halted production, including the Stewart and Colbert-headlining shows. In a statement released to announce the comedians' return to television, Colbert and Stewart wrote: "We would like to return to work with our writers. If we cannot, we would like to express our ambivalence, but without our writers we are unable to express something as nuanced as ambivalence." Jimmy Kimmel recently announced his imminent return to late night television. Jay Leno, David Letterman and others may be returning soon as well, as their shows and many other popular shows have been in reruns or off the air since production has been temporarily shut down on many sets. The next question being raised is whether acclaimed new shows, which had to shut down after running out of filmed episodes since the strike, will even return to the screen. All that is left to say is... stay tuned!
