6/30/2008 in Girl mauled on bike trail of Alaskan Mountain Race. Steve Ruback A 14-year-old girl is currently in critical condition after she was viciously attacked by a bear on a bike trail, while she was participating in an all-night mountain bike race held in Alaska. The unidentified girl suffered significant neck, head, torso and leg injuries and immediately underwent surgery upon her arrival at the Providence Alaska Medical Center. The girl was discovered by authorities on the scene, who instantaneously got in contact with medics and escorted them to the trail where she was attacked. The 14-year-old miraculously managed to call 9-1-1 despite her severe injuries, though, according to EFluxMedia, she was unable to communicate with the person on the other line. When she was discovered at 1:30 in the morning by another rider participating in the race, the girl sadly managed to only be able to say one word: bear. EFluxMedia is reporting that the race, which began Saturday, has been officially cancelled as a result of this devastating attack. Sixty bicycle riders had entered the race prior to its cancellation.
