[John Winn](/columnists/John+Winn) 3/19/2009 His drug fueled sexual relationship with a male prostitute scandalized evangelicals, and indirectly led to the GOP's decline. Three years later, they are making a most unusual TV round--on "Divorce Court" no less. Haggard, 52, is set to appear on the daytime reality show alongside wife Gayle, according to the AP. The one on one interview with Judge Lynn Toler--for which the couple were paid an undisclosed sum--is part of an upcoming segment on the dangers of getting a divorce. In the long ranging interview, Gayle described her struggle with her husband's infidelity, saying that the Biblical principles of compassion and steadfastness "guided her through her darkest hours." Describing her husband, Ted, as "a better man" for going through the ordeal, Haggard said that divorce was "not the answer" to relationship problems. In 2006, a prostitute, Mike Jones, accused Haggard of buying methamphetamine from him in addition to carrying on an affair with him. The scandal rocked the New Life Church which he presided over, and scandalized the evangelical community. Since then, the Haggards have been steadily rehabilitating their image. In January, the couple appeared on an HBO documentary, "The Trials of Ted Haggard," directed by Alexandra Pelosi.
