3/23/2009 in Girl in Romania sells virginity foy college tuition, leaving me disgusted. Amanda Bolden-Weaver So, I recently read this disturbing story about a Romanian girl, who was peddling her virginity online, offering it to the person who can be gentle, who she would consider marrying, and let's not forget the most important detail - someone who will pay off her college tuition. The article was on FoxNews.com, which is another fact that I find to be disconcerting: Why would someone selling her virginity online be considered newsworthy? Is Fox News, which originally got the report from the *Sun*, hurting that badly for material, that they consider virginity for sale an important tidbit of information? And just the other day, there was an article on ToTheCenter.com, in which an Australian man, who is making some sort of documentary, wanted people to allow him to film them losing their virginity. He was even going to pay them! Now, maybe I sound like a . . . oh, I don't know, stick in the mud? But honestly, it seems to me that there really is no dignity left in my generation, and I say "my" because, as a 19-year-old, I feel compelled to point out the obvious. My generation has grown up with nude scenes in films being the norm, with songs that are overtly sexual in nature, and with fashion compelling women to nearly bare it all to get some male attention. In my opinion, selling virginity is not okay, and anyone who advertises or believes that there is nothing wrong with treating something that is special and important as a commodity . . . well, they just might regret their decisions.
