3/30/2009 Andrew Randall Disney has announced it will base a cruise ship out of the Port of Los Angeles. According to *USA Today*, Disney has elected to base a cruise ship out of the Port of Los Angeles. Los Angeles won out over San Diego to be the West Coast base of the Disney Cruise Line. Disney announced the result Monday, stating that the Disney Wonder would relocate to the Port of Los Angeles from its current home at Port Canaveral in 2011. Disney says it is currently wrapping up contract negotiations with the Los Angeles port that has a chance of being lengthened by up to three years. The board of Harbor Commissioners of the Port of Los Angeles is set to consider the contract on Apr. 2, 2009. If the agreement is endorsed, the new Disney Wonder could bring close to 250,000 passengers through the Port of Los Angeles in a five-year period. Disney has run seasonal sailing on the West Coast in the past. This will be the first time the company will permanently base a ship in the area. Two brand-new, 122,000-ton ships are currently under construction. The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2011 and 2012. The ships are being built in a shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
