5/25/2009 Mandy Rodgers A rare stamp of Audrey Hepburn is seeking a buyer. In Berlin, a stamp collector is looking to make a nice profit off of an incredibly rare Audrey Hepburn stamp, according to Yahoo.com. In 2001, the German government released a special series of stamps featuring some of Hollywood's most classic leading ladies including Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Greta Garbo. Charlie Chaplin was also honored in the stamp series with the women of the screen. Around 14 million of Heburn's stamp was printed but soon destroyed when her son, Sean Ferrer, refused to grant copyright due to the image the company used. The picture on the stamp had Hepburn with a cigarette holder in her mouth, and after his mother died from colon cancer in 1993, Ferrer refused the stamps' sale. However, several of the stamps had already been sent to press and were released into the hands of some unknowing patrons. Reportedly, only five copies of the stamp are in existence, and the bidding begins at $41,959. Ferrer told the press he hopes the collector donates the proceeds to a good cause, like to support cancer research. The stamp collector is remaining anonymous because he's not sure who gave him the stamp and doesn't want everyone who has ever given him stamps to claim the prize.
