6/20/2009 in The "Buffy" regular is a big Arthur fan. Lindsey Weedston Anthony Stewart Head, known for his work in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," has a new role as King Uther in "Merlin." The show, which will premiere on NBC on June 21, follows the adventures of a teenage Merlin and his friend Prince Arthur. According to the Boston Herald, Head thoroughly enjoys "Merlin," calling it "a great show to watch." He was attracted to the role due to a childhood fascination with the Arthurian legends, during which he would pretend to be a knight of Arthur's court, using a bamboo pole as a sword. "Merlin" may not be a show for experts on the Arthurian legends, however. Rather than following the plot of the classic story, "Merlin" creates a different vision of the events surrounding Arthur and his wizard. Instead of living in secrecy until the sword in the stone incident, Arthur is raised by King Uther, who has outlawed the use of magic. Merlin therefore has to hide his talents as he forms his friendship with Prince Arthur. The Hollywood Reporter gave "Merlin" a positive review, praising it for its lush sets, fantastic visual effects, and wholesome message. Although it is very much a family show, complete with plenty of humor and teen angst, Head says that "where it could go dark, they did go dark."
