7/14/2009 in Sense and Sensibilities and Sea Monsters will feature less Austen, more monsters. Lindsey Weedston After the unexpected success of the book that added zombies to the classic novel "Pride and Prejudice," Quirk books announced that they will be releasing "Sense and Sensibilities and Sea Monsters" this September. According to Publishers Weekly, the new book will see the Dashwood sisters evicted from their home to a mysterious island full of sea monsters rather than to a little cottage. Author Ben H. Winters says that it will have more monsters than the previous installment. The author of "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" was not available to write the new mash-up because he had already signed with Grand Central Press to write "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." However, the New York Times reports that Winters is hard at work on the novel, studying everything from "Jules Verne novels to 'Lost' to 'Jaws' to 'Spongebob SquarePants.'" In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Winters announced that the book will contain "a giant rampaging mutant lobster. Octopi with glittering tentacles. And pirates — I couldn't resist pirates." He also expressed his respect for Jane Austen, saying that "her novels are so strong, so cleverly constructed, so smart and dry, they really lend themselves to over-the-top violence." "Sense and Sensibilities and Sea Monsters" will hit the shelves on Sept. 15.
