7/26/2009 Ivory Sherman You know what grinds my gears? I decided to take another page from "Family Guy's" Peter Griffin because there are a lot of things that truly "grind my gears." I usually do not let things bother me but I observe things that are equivalent to nails on a chalkboard such as: President Obama commenting about Henry Louis Gates: On Wednesday night, a reporter asked President Obama how he felt about what happened to Henry Louis Gates. At the time, I believe Obama said what he really felt when he said, "They acted stupidly." However, what "grinds my gears" is that he released a statement on Friday apologizing for his statement. Basically, he did not want to add fuel to the fire with his statement, and invites Crowley and Gates to meet with him at the White House. I think it's noble of President Obama to try to sit with these two men and try to work out their differences and also that he didn't want to worsen the situation, but I think he should not have apologized for his statement. He is the president of the United States and he should have stood by his statement because it was truthful. It's like my grandmother used to say, "Stand for something or fall for anything." "Every Girl," by Young Money: This song grinds my gears because it is a perfect example of why people think "hip-hop is dead." This song is not only disgusting, but also its misogynistic. So, I want to know if Trina or Lil' Kim will come out with an "Every Boy" remix? If they did, it would be quite controversial because if women talked about having sexual relations with every dude in the world, then they'd be labeled. It "grinds my gears" that men can get away with rapping about women being sexual objects but women cannot. I know that "two wrongs don't make a right," but I think it would make it balanced. When girls wear Ugg Boots and it's summertime: It "grinds my gears" when I see women walk around with a miniskirt and Ugg Boots. I thought Ugg Boots were for when it snows, not when you can see heat waves rise off the sidewalk. And most importantly, aren't your feet hot, because I know Ugg Boots have fleece in them? I want to know in what fashion magazine does it say that it's fashionable to wear Ugg Boots in the summer? . . . And that's what grinds my gears.
