Corinna Craddock It is estimated that 20 people will lose jobs as a result of Southern Accents magazine closing up shop this year after the September/October issue. Time Inc. decided to cut the paper magazine that has been distributed to home-entertainers and decorating-optimists for 32 years now. The Southern Accents closure follows the closure of other magazines with luxury living and travel themes. Declining figures reported by the Publisher's Information Bureau for Southern Accents magazine reflect the practical buying trend of the current economy. The magazine was put out six times each year by the Southern Progress Corp. The Birmingham Al. based publication was notified just months back in January that their magazine, Cottage Living, had been cut. The corporation is best known for Southern Living magazine. Southern Accents continues to reach readers through a Website with the same name. As the recession continues, Time Inc. may decide to close more print publications included in the corporation's luxury living portfolio.
