8/12/2009 in This may be the year the Chargers go all the way. Corinna Craddock Now that Wade Phillips has refined his coaching style after almost getting fired last year, and Tony Romo no longer has Jessica Simpson or Terrell Owens to blame for his mistakes, it remains unlikely that the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl. With a more disciplined camp and a refreshed focus on football playing, the Cowboys continue to be one of the most talented teams in the league since getting rid of Owens, Adam "Pacman" Jones and Tank Johnson. Felix Jones is expected to display great talent and Romo strives to improve himself passing and guarding the ball. But it is doubtful that the NFL's 2008 top under-achieving team will be able to pull off winning the Super Bowl. Owens commanded attention during games, and the Cowboys do not have a player that presents the same kind of threat. The Cowboys won't win the Super Bowl, but how 'bout those Chargers? Every year the Chargers are the topic of Super Bowl optimism, and this year is no different. Or is it? This may be the year the Bolts go all the way. What makes this year different? Shawne Merriman is back. Quarterback Philip Rivers is playing better than he ever has. The Charger's offense has achieved balance. Their defense is ready. The stars may be lining up to finally get the Chargers to the next step, and the team may get all their ducks in a row so that LaDainian Tomlinson will get his hands on that ring. There is no telling if the team's talent is enough to win the Super Bowl while Norv Turner is coach. The Chargers are not the first team that Turner has led to high Super Bowl hopes. The problem is that it takes more than the ability to call great plays and having a team with great stats to make it to the Super Bowl. Turner may not have the leadership it takes for the Chargers to win the Super Bowl. Truth be told, the Chargers have continued to slip since the loss of Marty Schottenheimer. The Chargers have a good chance of winning the division. They may even have the talent it takes to champion over the Steelers, Patriots, or the Colts if they meet the challenge and get to face one of this year's favored teams in the Super Bowl.
