[Adam Sosnik](/columnists/Adam+Sosnik) 8/24/2009 Fanbase offers stats on the celebrated and lesser known American sports teams In the Internet Age, sports fans rejoice over the ability to delve into the statistical world of facts and figures from their favorite teams. Now, a new Web site called Fanbase will help some of those fans obsess over similar statistics - only of slightly lesser known teams. With a five million-dollar investment from venture capitalists, Fanbase founders Sarah Leary, Nirav Tolia, and Prakash Janakiraman have set out to create an almanac of sports statistics from every professional and college team and athlete, ranging from the popular 1995 Dallas Cowboys to the less prominent Long Beach State women's water polo team. The new site currently contains stats and scores on 21,000 teams and 1.73 million athletes, according to the New York Times. Statistics for obscure teams like the 1991 University of Pennsylvania women's lacrosse team are usually limited to team rosters and game scores, obtained by Fanbase from the digitalization of team media guides throughout the past year. More popular sports figures like former Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman have stats, videos, and trivia attached to their Fanbase page. "Our long-term goal is to be the definitive source of information on all athletes," Fanbase chief executive Nirav Tolia told [TheNewYorkTimes](http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/24/for-sports-obsessed-a-site-tries-to-please-every-fan/). While Fanbase currently serves the team sport community, individual sports like golf and tennis are soon to come. Fanbase welcomes the opportunity for athletes to upload their own commentary and statistics from their heyday.
