8/28/2009 in Chris Brown understands what he did was wrong, and wants to tell the world. Domonique Hume Chris Brown wanted to plea guilty for beating Rihanna, his girlfriend, before his court appearance, June 22. TMZ reported that though Brown was "ashamed and embarrassed," he met with his attorney, Mark Geragos, his mother and probation officers at Geragos's office, June 22, to let them know he wanted to plea guilty for the assault on Rihanna the morning of Feb. 8. Brown cut a plea deal with the prosecutors on June 22, pleading guilty for felony assaults of beating, choking and biting Rihanna. If Brown was convicted on the felony count, he would have gotten five years in prison. Another count of making criminal threats was later dropped. Brown told his probation officer that he grew up in a house full of domestic violence and didn't want to "carry on the cycle." He also said he wanted to go to domestic violence counseling. He wanted to "do it right," adding, "I want to take responsibility for my mistake. . . . \[I'm\] totally remorseful for what I have done." Brown was sentenced to five years of probation, six months of labor, and has to stay away from Rihanna for the next five years.
