8/30/2009 in DJ AM died from a mixture of crack and pills. Justin Carbone DJ AM, 36, whose real name was Adam Goldstein, died from a drug overdose. AM's body was found in his SoHo apartment this past Friday, face down on his bed. What killed him was the lethal dose of prescription drugs mixed with crack cocaine which were found scattered around his body. When a friend was unable to reach AM regarding a flight he was supposed to catch for a gig in Vegas, police were called. According to [AMNY.com](http://www.amny.com/urbanite-1.812039/sources-dj-am-died-of-a-drug-overdose-1.1411537), a source told TMZ, "The celebrity DJ began taking anti-anxiety medication to cope with flying after surviving a plane crash that killed four people last year, but the pills caused him to crave crack after more than 11 years of sobriety." A spokesperson for the NYPD has stated that there are no updates regarding the case, since they are waiting for the results of the medical investigation. But they believe that there was no sign of foul play, and that it was not a suicide attempt either. As reported on [TVGuide.com](http://www.tvguide.com/News/DJ-AM-Death-1009364.aspx), DJ AM told the Associated Press that while filming his reality show for MTV about families holding interventions for loved ones, he held a crack pipe for the first time in 11 years, to help gain some perspective. The show, called "Gone Too Far," details the attempts of AM to help young addicts overcome drug addiction. The reality show is currently in limbo; MTV made no response whether the show will air in October.
