According to Rolling Stone, insiders have confirmed that Abdul had felt stung over the fact that a new contract could not be agreed upon at the last minute. However, she provided a statement in regards to the situation on her Twitter account, where she posted, "I think Ellen will b a g8 judge on Idol." As a former musician who had enjoyed mainstream success throughout her career, Abdul had provided the show with a knowledgeable viewpoint from a prominent music industry figure when she was a part of the judge's panel. DeGeneres, who has no music industry experience, is being brought in as a source who can share the fan's perspective. DeGeneres commented on her decision to join American Idol during her appearance on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, saying, "I'm just a fan like everyone else. The people choose. Ultimately, it comes down to them, not some executive in the music industry. I hope to be that voice." The comedian and television talk show host clarified that American Idol's producers are the ones who approached her about becoming a judge on the popular reality program.
