Shanece Taylor On Sunday, Sept. 20, "Peace Without Borders," an open-air peace concert was held at the Revolution Plaza in Havana, Cuba. Colombian rock star Juanes headlined. Other singers included Miguel Bose of Spain, Olga Tanon and Silvio Rodriguez. The Associated Press reports the concert attracted hundreds of thousands of Cubans, but it was not welcomed by some Cuban-Americans. They believed the concert performers were supporting Cuba's communist government. The concert headliner received death threats leading up to the event. And, Juanes CD smashing protests and boycotts were organized in Miami, FL. Despite some opposition, most of the audience wore white and carried signs reading "Peace on Earth" in support of the peace message. AP further details the support the concert received. The government prepared hundreds of public buses to transport people to the concert in hopes of encouraging a large audience. Florida Spanish-language stations covered the event. And, throughout the duration of the concert, the performers shouted and expressed their wishes for peace. In particular, Juanes exclaimed, "We came to Cuba for love. We have overcome fear to be with you and we hope that you too can overcome it."
