11/11/2009 in President Barack Obama carried on tradition on Wednesday by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns TheCelebrityCafe.com Staff U.S. Presidents have carried on a timeless tradition over the years by laying a wreath at the Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknowns to commemorate American soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our nation in the Korea and Vietnam wars. Earlier this morning, President Barack Obama participated in this tradition and made a Veterans Day address to praise current members of the military and honor those who have served in the past. The USA Today is reporting that President Obama expressed gratitude for members of the military who are currently serving to protect for our country, saying that he believed they have proven themselves to be equal to their forefathers who served before them. The President also clarified that he felt it was impossible not to be moved by the sacrifice that members of the military have made while standing on the premises of the Arlington Cemetery. American flags were displayed at the Arlington Cemetery where those in attendance bowed their heads in prayer with "Taps" being played by a trumpeter in the background to honor our fallen soldiers on Veterans Day, according to The USA Today. President Obama reportedly sent an e-mail on Wednesday to American veterans that reads, "Today, on Veterans Day, my message to you is simple: Thank you. Thank you for your selfless service, for your valor, and for your strength of purpose that make all of us proud to be Americans."
