12/9/2009 in Fans of FX's freshman sports fantasy comedy series "The League" will be delighted to learn that the show is returning for a second season. Sari N. Kent FX has okayed a second season of its freshman comedy series "The League," ordering 13 more episodes. According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, "Season 2 will debut in late-summer 2010, and its first-season finale airs Thursday night. Through five episodes, 'League' is averaging a modest 1 million viewers an episode and 860,000 adults 18-49.'" "We've been very pleased with the creative and ratings trajectory of 'The League' and believe it's an excellent fit with our comedy brand," FX Executive VP Programming Nick Grad said. Grad added that he believes the show's producers, Jeff and Jackie Schaffer, to be "incredibly talented." He also praises the performances of show's wonderful ensemble cast who reminds him of the cast of fellow FX show "It's Always Sunny on Philadelphia" in its inaugural season. "The League," which is a semi-scripted comedy about a fantasy football league premiered on Oct. 29, 2009. Its cast includes Mark Duplass, who plays Pete, 3-time defending champion of the league who recently separated from his wife, Nick Kroll as Ruxin, a unscrupulous defense attorney who will do whatever it takes to ensure the league does well, Jon Lajoie as Taco, a regularly stoned and out of work musician with a carefree lifestyle that the other players envy, Stephen Rannazzisi as Kevin, Taco's brother and a district attorney whose wife actually helps him run his team and Paul Scheer as Andre, a rich plastic surgeon whose naivety makes him an easy target for a barrage of jokes from the league's players.
