12/9/2009 in The 'Wicked' star might play a rival glee team coach. Tari Gaffney Idina Menzel is in talks to join the cast of Fox's "Glee," reports E! Online. Menzel, aka Mrs. Taye Diggs, originated the Broadway role of Elphaba in "Wicked." Contrary to popular speculation, Menzel would not be playing Rachel Berry's (Lea Michele) biological mother. According to Hollywood Reporter, Menzel would play the coach of rival glee club Vocal Adrenaline. If the deal works out, her character could potentially appear in all nine of season-one's remaining episodes. Menzel would also potentially be reunited with former "Wicked" castmate Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth guest-starred on "Glee" earlier in the season as April Rhodes, an alcoholic glee club has-been. She is expected to return later this season. Menzel gave birth to her first child with Diggs in September, so taking the role would cut her maternity leave short. Glee will be returning on April 13, 2010 for the second half of the first season.
