Roberts had been groomed to replace Dan Rathers as anchor for CBS News, but had been repeatedly skipped over for the post since Rathers left March 2005. "We had a discussion about the future. It became clear they were looking in a different direction as far as the main anchor goes," Roberts said to the Hollywood Reporter. Roberts is an Emmy-winning reporter, who has covered the Waco standoff, the Oklahoma City bombing, and Hurricane Katrina. Roberts has covered the White House for CBS since 1999.
