Four men in a tank in 1982 during the Lebanon War must face a harsh existence following with their fellow soldiers as they try to rendezvous with the rest of their army while traveling through hostile country. The men must face life or death situations, uncomfortable quarters, and their own demons. Based on the personal experiences of writer-director Samuel Maoz during his time in the Israeli Army.
QUALITY:
There are some slight issues with black levels in the first ten or fifteen minutes of the film as the men are shown inside of the belly of the tank. I was worried that the film would have a slight haze over a majority of the darker scenes like these but as the film trudges on and we see through the eye of the crosshairs everything becomes reality. This transition from the cramped confines of the tank to a limited view of the world outside gives the film an amazing point of clarity for the viewer as seen through the eyes of the men in the tank. As the light becomes fluid within the tank the black level issues become almost unnoticeable. On a whole though the picture looks pretty fantastic. Audio comes at you in a Hebrew 5.1 DTS-HD MA mix which perfectly adds to the ambiance of the film giving you an insiders perspective hearing gunshots bouncing off the exterior of the tank and voices panicked. Its quite a powerful experience and after the film was over I realized I had not moved an inch or spoken a word through its 93 minute runtime. One of the finest uses of the BD technology as far as providing an immersive experience in a film.
BONUS FEATURES:
Bonus features are light. You get a 24 minute behind the scenes look at the making of the film which seemed to bounce around an awful lot. Its also subtitled and is presented in standard definition. Other then that you get the films trailer and a handful of trailers at the beginning of the film. It would have been nice to get a bit more but it suffices. The real gem here is the film itself. As always final judgment is yours. Enjoy.
